Nassau Paradise Island Is More Popular Than Ever. Here’s Why.

By: Alexander Britell - June 18, 2024 - 5:18 pm

The beaches. The world-class restaurants. The conch. The Junkanoo. The unrivaled resorts. The energy.

It’s hard to imagine a more complete destination than Nassau Paradise Island in The Bahamas, whether you’re staying at resorts like Atlantis Paradise Island or Baha Mar, legendary boutique hotels like Graycliff, sleek new additions like the Goldwynn on Cable Beach or family-friendly options like Comfort Suites on Paradise Island.

And clearly it’s working: the destination continues to see record-breaking numbers, with projections for 2024 even stronger.

In the first four months of this year, Nassau Paradise Island has already welcomed 1.87 million combined sea and air visitors — a sizable 13.2 percent jump compared the same period in 2023.

That’s helped contribute to what are slated to be record-breaking arrivals for The Bahamas nationwide, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Chester Cooper.

A major help has been continued growth in new flights to the destination, both from closer markets like South Florida to new nonstop routes from places like Los Angeles and Seattle, both of which have helped open up twin-island destination to new travelers.

Atlantis Paradise Island is already one of the world’s top family resorts.

It’s helped to shine a light on a destination that has been one of the buzziest in the Caribbean in recent years, from world-class food festivals to a growing lineup of celebrity chefs that have all opened up eateries here: think Jose Andres, Daniel Boulud, Marcus Samuelsson and, most recently, JJ Johnson, among others.

But it’s not just about the food: there’s a thriving art scene, led by John Cox’s groundbreaking work as the Baha Mar’s creative director and buoyed by a host of top-flight art galleries like the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas and Hillside House; a sizzling cultural offering that even includes a full-fledged Junkanoo musical hosted on the Atlantis stage; and even a dynamic new cocktail scene led by the team at Nassau’s Bon Vivants and Paradise Island’s new Dilly Club.

The Dilly Club has quickly become a destination cocktail bar.

Everywhere you look, there’s something new and different: Graycliff’s landmark celebration of the wines and spirits of England (something that helped garner the hotel the world’s first-ever Blue Plaque from the United Kingdom); the clever food truck concept on the beach at the Baha Mar; even the first-ever Tipsy Scoop location in The Bahamas. (Atlantis is even hosting the world’s first Barbie collaboration with a hotel this summer).

That means a palpable sense of energy, something that flows directly to travelers, delivered in authentic, quintessentially Bahamian way.

Are you planning a vacation to Nassau?

We’ve stayed at every top resort on the island, and you can choose from destination resorts like Atlantis and Baha Mar; all-inclusive resorts like the lovely Sandals Royal Bahamian; the great-value Comfort Suites Paradise Island (which gives guests built-in access to Atlantis’ Aquaventure water park); the always-fun Margaritaville Beach Resort downtown, which has one of the Caribbean’s best on-site waterparks; the sleek, upscale residential resort called Goldwynn on Cable Beach; the reimagined British Colonial in the heart of the capital’s historic downtown; the villa-style Paradise Island Beach Club on Cabbage Beach; and the legendary Graycliff, also home to the island’s signature restaurant.
