You Can Stay in a Toes-in-the-Sand Bungalow at This Secluded Resort in The Bahamas
There’s a place in The Bahamas where you wake up with the ocean at your doorstep. Not near it—on it.
Welcome to the beachfront bungalows at the Cape Eleuthera Resort, where your feet land in the sand before your first sip of coffee. Here, they call it Sunset Beach, and this is the barefoot luxury you didn’t know you were missing.
Set on one of the most secluded corners of the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, these new bungalows aren’t just near the beach. They are the beach. No boardwalks, no concrete paths—just you, the water, and wide-open sky. Despite the overwhelming beauty of The Bahamas, finding a true toes-in-sand bungalow isn’t quite as easy as you’d think. That’s what makes these so special.
A Bungalow Built for the Beach Life
Step outside your door and you’re in the sand. Not steps away—in it. Each of these intimate beachfront bungalows sleeps two and comes with a master suite, spa-style bath, walk-in shower, mini fridge, coffee maker, and smart TV—plus just the right mix of resort polish and island soul. The doors slide open to your private terrace and the sound of waves rolling in. It’s the kind of morning where time slows, coffee tastes better, and shoes feel irrelevant. This is the Bahamian vacation you’re looking for.

Three Beaches. No Crowds.
Cape Eleuthera isn’t just a resort—it’s a nearly 4,500-acre hideaway surrounded by sea. You get three beaches to yourself: Sunrise, Sunset, and Fourth Hole. The names say everything, and they’re all blissfully uncrowded. Because while the acreage is massive, this is a small, boutique, intimate resort. Walk five minutes in either direction and you’re alone with the sea breeze. Stay still and watch stingrays float by. This is the Out Islands at their purest.

You can kayak or paddleboard straight from your beach. Or book a guided trip with local pros—bonefishing, deep sea fishing, scuba diving—every kind of saltwater thrill is within reach. Or you can take a bike or hike the expanse of this spectacular corner of Eleuthera.
And when you come back, you’re not just “returning to your room.” You’re coming home to the beach.
Then it’s time for our favorite ritual at Cape Eleuthera: the sundowner, well timed and well mixed.
Dinner is steps away at Harbour Pointe on the Beach, the resort’s new-look beach restaurant. Local seafood, island cocktails, and fire pits after dark. It’s part beach bar, part barefoot dinner party.
Then it’s back to your bungalow, where the stars are brighter than you remember and the sea never stops singing.
How to Get There
Cape Eleuthera is about an hour from the Rock Sound airport, which sees direct flights from Fort Lauderdale and Nassau. Makers Air offers seamless transfers for U.S. travelers. It’s longer from North Eleuthera, where you can fly in on American Airlines or boutique carriers like Tradewind.
You won’t find big cruise ships or day trippers here. This is remote, undiscovered energy with Out Island vibes—and it’s all yours.
The Bottom Line
This is the best new beachfront stay in The Bahamas. We loved these bungalows on our recent stay to Cape Eleuthera, where I first visited just before 2020 and have already been back twice. If you’re looking for a no-compromise, no-shoes, totally unplugged kind of luxury, the new bungalows at Cape Eleuthera are where you want to be.
And yes, you really do wake up in the sand.
Rates start at $555 per night right now, an extremely good value, both for The Bahamas and this level of proximity to the sand. If you want a little more space, Cape Eleuthera also has some lovely villas set right on the edge of the marina that start at $650 per night.
