St Barth’s Le Sereno Hotel Is Reopening With a New Beach Club and a Private-Pool Suite on the Sand
Le Sereno returns to St Barth on November 16 with redesigned suites, Patricia Urquiola furnishings and a new beachfront address on Grand Cul-de-Sac.
A private pool beneath a coconut palm. A gate that opens directly onto the beach. Beyond the sand, the shallow turquoise water of Grand Cul-de-Sac, where you can paddle a transparent-bottom kayak above the lagoon.
That’s the centerpiece of the next chapter at Le Sereno, the beachfront luxury hotel in St Barth that reopens for the season on Nov. 16. The return introduces a new signature suite, a beach club on an adjoining property and a collection of tropical gardens that brings more privacy to the accommodations.
The changes are the result of a three-year project led by owners Luis and Angelica Contreras. This is a seasonal reopening following that extended transformation, with upgrades reaching from the entrance to the waterfront.
We’ve covered Le Sereno’s evolution over the years. This latest chapter puts the emphasis squarely on the beach: more outdoor living, new places to eat beside the lagoon and a suite with its own direct route to the sand.
A New Beachfront Suite With Its Own Pool
The biggest accommodation addition is the Suite des Pêcheurs, a one-bedroom waterfront suite encompassing approximately 2,476 square feet, including indoor and outdoor areas.
It has two bathrooms, a private pool and a private beach gate. A coconut palm shades the pool deck, while Patricia Urquiola furnishings carry the design through the living spaces. The open-plan bathroom includes a sculptural Cenote bathtub.
The layout gives couples room to spread out without moving into a multibedroom villa. You have separate places to swim, lounge and sit outside, with the beach immediately beyond your gate.
Every accommodation at Le Sereno has been redone. The waterfront suites receive Urquiola-designed canopies, adding shade to their outdoor spaces, while new planting creates greater separation between neighboring accommodations. Spacious interiors, oversized beds and water views remain central to the hotel’s all-suite offering.
A Different Arrival, and Gardens Around the Suites
The transformation starts with a coconut-palm entrance.
Beyond it, the grounds contain a collection of gardens developed with creative direction from Denys Ridrimont. Palms, tropical plants and rare trees have been selected to give different parts of the property their own character.
One of the most unusual specimens is a Copernicia fallaensis palm, which the hotel says spans more than 32 feet and is believed to be the only one of its kind on St Barth.
The planting serves a practical purpose around the suites, providing shade, screening terraces and creating private places to sit. Green walls surround the new arrival area, extending the garden treatment to the first space guests encounter.
The owners previously collaborated with Christian Liaigre on Le Sereno’s original design and later created Il Sereno on Lake Como. Here, their latest investment adds more vegetation and outdoor comfort to an established beachfront hotel.
Patricia Urquiola’s New Pool Terrace
The pool remains one of Le Sereno’s central gathering places, with stone selected to echo the turquoise water beyond it.
Urquiola’s contribution includes a new conversation pit at the head of the pool, along with a redesigned terrace. Outdoor lounges, seafront cabanas, designer loungers and a new pool bar give guests more choices around the water.
The waterfront has also received attention. According to the hotel, a beach restoration project undertaken alongside local authorities and the island’s nature reserve has widened the sand in front of the property.
Complimentary transparent-bottom kayaks and custom stand-up paddleboards provide access to the protected lagoon. Sea turtles inhabit these waters, a longstanding part of the Grand Cul-de-Sac experience; we previously reported on Le Sereno’s marine education and conservation initiatives.
BOKAO, the New Beach Club
Le Sereno has acquired the adjoining beachfront property to introduce BOKAO, a new beach club with relaxed waterfront dining.
The concept centers on barefoot lunches and an intimate atmosphere beside the water. Menu details have yet to be announced, but the addition gives the hotel a second dining identity alongside its established Italian restaurant.
It also adds another address to the island’s beach-club roster, which includes Shellona on Shell Beach and Nikki Beach in Saint Jean. BOKAO brings that lunch-on-the-sand experience directly to Le Sereno’s stretch of Grand Cul-de-Sac.
Italian Dining and a Waterfront Spa
Le Sereno Al Mare returns in a redesigned beachfront space, maintaining its focus on contemporary Italian cooking and fresh local ingredients. The open-air restaurant overlooks the lagoon, continuing the culinary connection between the family’s St Barth and Lake Como hotels.
At Spa Le Sereno, the waterfront treatment pavilion has been redone with Orosei stone. Valmont facials, massages and body treatments are available in the spa, with treatments also offered in guests’ suites.
The November reopening brings all of those additions together at one address: a redesigned suite above the beach, a shaded pool terrace, Italian dining beside the lagoon and a new beach club next door. For a return visit to Le Sereno, there will be plenty to see beyond the familiar view of Grand Cul-de-Sac.
