Haiti President Michel Martelly received Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon Magnus on Monday in Port-au-Prince.

The Prince was visiting Haiti in the context of strengthening cooperation between the states.

The two sides discussed a range of issues, including support by the government of Norway for Haiti’s environment, particularly the reduction of risks and disasters; renewable energy and the construction of mini-hyrdo plants and the Haiti Reconstruction Fund and reconstruction policy.

Mobilization in the support of the Millennium Development goals was a key commitment of the Prince from the United Nations Development Programe, for which he was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in 2003.

In July, Norway, along with Cuba, signed a agreement with Haiti on cooperation in the health sector, largely aimed at fighting cholera in Haiti.

Norway is contributing $800,000 under that agreement.
