Caribbean/Mexico Pipeline Has 125 Hotels, 19,381 Rooms in Development

The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline is continuing its growth, with a total of 125 hotels and 19,381 rooms in development as of last month, according to a report from STR Global.

The pipeline includes projects in construction, final planning and planning stages. It does not include those in the pre-planning stage.

The largest number of rooms in the pipeline come from the luxury hotel segment, with 23.3 percent and 4,524 rooms, according to the report.

The upscale segment has the second-largest proportion, with 22.9 percent and 4,444 rooms.

Of those rooms already under construction, unaffiliated hotel rooms represented 33.1 percent, or about 2,711 rooms.
