The beaches. The bar-hopping. The shopping. The yachting. St Thomas is one of the hottest places to visit in the Caribbean right now — and now the island is about to get its first new-build hotel in three decades.

The new Hampton Inn by Hilton St Thomas is almost done, and now it has an opening date: Caribbean Journal has learned.

The hotel is now taking bookings for stays beginning Sept. 5, according to the Hilton website.

The new hotel is the first for the island in years.

It’s a huge boost for an island that is already surging in popularity, thanks to creative marketing, abundant airlift and an authentic vibe that always delivers for those who love the Caribbean.

The location is great: right at the Havensight Mall, meaning everywhere you need (including the shopping at the cruise port) is easy to reach.

So what do you need to know about the hotel?

There’s a pool, event space, free parking, free Wi-Fi and, in keeping with the Hampton brand, free hot breakfast every day of your stay.

There’s a mix of rooms and suites, along with accessible rooms for travelers who need them. And yes, you can use your Hilton Honors points to book, too.

Rates at the new hotel are starting at $237 per night, according to Google Hotels.

St Thomas has been seeing increasing hotel growth over the last few years, thanks to a big push by the USVI Department of Tourism; that includes the newly-transformed Frenchman’s Reef, which includes the Westin Beach Resort and the lovely, beachfront Buoy Haus resort (here’s more on why we like the latter in particular) and the new Pink Palm, the boutique hotel in the heart of historic Charlotte Amalie.
