This Tiny Caribbean Hotel Has Plunge Pools, Lagoon Views and Floating Breakfasts

It’s not a secret. We love plunge pools. At Caribbean Journal, we like to say that a private plunge pool is the greatest amenity at any hotel, and we’ve never seen that proposition disproven.

That’s why our latest featured Tiny Hotel is a lovely little 16-room boutique on the Atlantic coast of Martinique, where nearly every room comes with its own lagoon-view pool.

A tiny French Caribbean retreat

This is the Plein Soleil, and it’s my preferred stay on this enchanting Caribbean island: it’s charming, it’s low-key and the rooms are fantastic.

Other than the entry-level guest rooms, every category comes with a private pool, from the “master pool” options to the duplex suites (which can accommodate up to four people if you’re traveling with two kids. They all come with mini-fridges, coffee machines and AC.

My favorite amenity

My favorite part? The expansive decks that adjoin the pools — you’ll want to spend all day there, turning this place into your own private French Caribbean hideaway.

You can even opt for a “floating breakfast” that involves freshly-baked croissants and baguettes, jams and fresh fruit served on a floating table right in your pool. What else can be delivered to your pool? A massage, if you like.

If you want to branch out, there is a main pool, too, and a beautiful, inviting “main house” that can serve as your living room during your stay.

There’s one restaurant at the hotel, the haute-cuisine eatery led by Chef Sandjy Réyal that includes a prix-fixe tasting menu. There’s also a small, intimate bar where you can try some of the island’s famous rhum vieux.

This isn’t for everyone. There isn’t room service, for example, and the service is on the light side. But if you like the exotic, the off-the-beaten-path and you love beautiful hotel rooms, this is for you.

What does this hotel cost?

The best part might be the price. Rooms at the Plein Soleil start at just $235 per night.

Martinique has nonstop flights from Miami on American Airlines several times per week.
