Even with a slight lull in traffic in recent months, there’s no question as to Cancun’s position as a travel powerhouse.

Since the pandemic, the Mexican Caribbean tourism capital has seen the addition of more new flights than just about anywhere, and that, coupled with continued hotel growth, means Cancun remains a heavyweight.

And Cancun’s tourism fortunes are about to get a significant lift this winter, with Delta announcing plans for a massive expansion in flights to the hotspot.

It will start in December, with three brand-new routes and five route expansions. So what’s on tap?

Travelers departing from Detroit will benefit from an expanded schedule, with daily flights to Cancun rising from three to four between January 6 and April 12, 2026.

New York is getting a similar boost, as flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport increase from two to three per day during the same period, strengthening the already robust East Coast-to-Caribbean corridor.

On the West Coast, Los Angeles travelers will see daily flights double from one to two between December 20, 2025, and January 5, 2026/

Austin, one of America’s fastest-growing cities and an increasingly important aviation market, is getting its first-ever daily nonstop service to Cancun on Delta, launching December 20, 2025, and running through April 12, 2026. Similarly, Boston will see its service to Cancun ramp up from one to two daily flights over the winter holiday period, from December 20, 2025, to January 5, 2026.

Airlines are also tapping into secondary U.S. markets to further expand their reach, a trend Caribbean Journal has been reporting on for several years now.

In keeping with the trend, seasonal, once-weekly Saturday flights are also being introduced by Delta from Nashville, Indianapolis, and Kansas City, with service running from December 20, 2025, through April 12, 2026.

The Caribbean Direct Booking Summit Is Coming to Antigua
