This Aruba Beach Has White Sand, Shore Snorkeling, and a Bar Below the Lighthouse

Arashi Beach brings together some of Aruba’s best beach-day ingredients, just beyond the hotels of Palm Beach.

Keep heading north from Palm Beach. Follow the coast past Malmok and Boca Catalina, toward the California Lighthouse, and you reach a stretch of white sand where the afternoon can be as straightforward as a swim, a cold drink and another swim.

This is Arashi Beach, near Aruba’s northwestern tip, with clear water, thatched shade huts and snorkeling you can reach from shore. There’s a beach bar, parking close to the sand and enough room in the day to stay longer than you planned. It’s a favorite with locals, too, a place to spend several hours with your feet in the sand and the Caribbean in front of you.

Aruba has extraordinary beaches. Arashi deserves a place on your vacation calendar because you can do so much of what you came to the island for in one place.

The Water Is the Reason to Come

Arashi has the combination you hope to find when you set out for a Caribbean beach: white sand and clear, inviting sea, with a sandy area for entering the water.

On a calm day, you can wade in, swim a little farther and turn back toward the shore, where the shade huts mark your spot on the beach. You don’t have to organize an excursion to get here or commit to a full day away from your hotel.

The setting suits different kinds of beachgoers. Someone can spend the morning swimming while another stays under a palapa with a book. Families can settle into a stretch of sand rather than keep packing up and moving between stops.

Conditions still matter. Arashi is an open-water beach, and wind and swell can change the swimming experience. Take a look at the sea before entering, especially if you’re visiting with children or planning to snorkel.

Bring Your Mask

One of Arashi’s strongest reasons to visit is what you can see beyond the shoreline.

Aruba’s tourism authority identifies the left side of the beach, as you face the sea, as a snorkeling area with coral and fish. You can enter from shore, making it possible to combine time on the sand with an underwater outing without booking a boat.

Bring your own mask and snorkel if you have them. Having your gear ready makes it easy to take advantage of suitable conditions, then return to your towel when you’ve had enough.

Start with a short swim and stay within your ability. Rocky sections require care, and coral should be observed without touching or standing on it. The pleasure here is in taking your time: floating, looking down and watching what passes through the water beneath you.

You can give snorkeling an hour of your morning or make it the main reason for coming. Either way, leave time afterward to enjoy the beach itself.

A Beach Bar and a Place in the Shade

A beach gets considerably easier to spend the day on when there’s somewhere to get a drink.

Arashi has a casual beach bar, along with lounge-chair rentals and shade huts. Those amenities give you options: arrive with your own beach setup, or rent a chair and settle in. The public shade huts are worth arriving early for, particularly if shade is a priority. Availability can change as people come and go.

Pack water, sun protection and whatever you want within reach while you’re on the sand. A little preparation lets you stay comfortably through the hours when you might otherwise head back to your room.

The bar also gives the day a natural lunch or drinks stop. You can come out of the water, dry off and take a seat before deciding whether you’re ready to leave.

That decision may take a while.

Go Beyond the Hotel Beach

If you’re staying on Palm Beach, Arashi makes an easy addition to your vacation. You follow the coast north, passing other swimming and snorkeling spots before reaching the beach near the lighthouse.

There’s parking by the beach, and public transportation serves Arashi as well. If you take a taxi, arrange your return or establish how you’ll contact a driver before settling in.

You can combine the beach with a visit to the California Lighthouse, giving you two stops in the same part of the island. Or keep the outing entirely about Arashi: arrive, find shade and spend the day between the water and your chair.

There’s no requirement to keep sightseeing once you find a beach you like.

Stay for the Sunset

Morning is a good choice if securing a shade hut matters most. Later in the day, Arashi offers another reason to linger: a west-facing view over the Caribbean.

After swimming and snorkeling, you can stay on the sand as the light changes across the water. The same beach that made a good morning stop becomes somewhere to finish the afternoon.

Plan generously. Bring your snorkeling gear, leave room for a drink at the bar and avoid putting another reservation too close to your beach time.

Arashi is the kind of place where a quick look can turn into the better part of a day.
