American Airlines Is Expanding Flights to Exuma, With Three Daily Nonstops From Miami This Winter

The winter schedule brings more options for reaching Great Exuma, the gateway to a Bahamas vacation filled with sandbars, secluded beaches and island hopping.

The water is the first reason to go: pale turquoise over the shallows, deeper blue beyond the sandbars, clear enough to see the bottom from your boat. Exuma is one of those places where an afternoon on the sea can become the centerpiece of your entire vacation.

This winter, American Airlines is making it easier to get there.

The carrier will operate three daily nonstop flights from Miami to Exuma from December 17, 2026, through April 5, 2027, expanding access during the holiday season and continuing through the heart of winter and into spring.

Three Daily Options From Miami

The schedule puts three departures a day on the route to Great Exuma, giving you more choices when planning your arrival and return. It also adds options if you’re connecting through Miami from another American Airlines city.

The timing covers some of the most popular months for a Bahamas vacation, beginning just before Christmas and extending into early April. If Exuma is on your winter list, the expanded schedule gives you another reason to start looking at dates.

Start With Great Exuma

Flying into Great Exuma puts you on the island that serves as a starting point for exploring this part of The Bahamas. You can stay near George Town, spend your days finding beaches along Great Exuma and cross the bridge to Little Exuma for more sand and sea.

You don’t need to fill every day with excursions. A beach, a rental car and a few stops for lunch can be enough, particularly if your idea of a vacation involves spending more time in the water than checking an itinerary.

Leave Time for the Cays

A boat day adds another dimension: shallow banks, small cays and sandbars that change with the tide. Choose your excursion carefully, paying attention to departure points, time on the boat and the specific stops included.

The Exumas cover a long chain of islands, and a flight into Great Exuma doesn’t put every famous attraction just offshore. Matching your hotel and boat plans before you book helps make the most of your stay.

American’s three-daily Miami schedule begins December 17 — just in time to trade a winter morning for an afternoon beside that water.
