Norwegian Cruise Line Is Planning a Big 2028 Caribbean Season With New Ships, Miami Sailings, and More Island Calls

Norwegian Cruise Line is laying out a broad 2028 Caribbean program that will put several of its newest ships across the region, with departures from Miami, Galveston, and Port Canaveral and itineraries reaching the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

The program includes seven-day sailings aboard the new Norwegian Aura, a return to Galveston for Norwegian Prima, alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises on Norwegian Escape, and a special 10-day voyage aboard Norwegian Luna with calls in Aruba, Curaçao, and Puerto Rico.

The deployment gives NCL a mix of traditional weeklong Caribbean cruises and longer itineraries during the spring, summer, and fall of 2028.

Norwegian Aura Will Sail Seven-Day Cruises From Miami

One of the biggest pieces of the 2028 program will be Norwegian Aura, one of the newest ships in the NCL fleet.

The ship will operate seven-day roundtrip Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami, with calls scheduled for Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay.

The itinerary gives travelers a mix of major Caribbean cruise ports and NCL’s private-island destination in The Bahamas.

Puerto Plata has become one of the Dominican Republic’s busiest cruise destinations, with easy links to beaches, waterfalls, historic sites, and the city’s waterfront. St. Thomas remains one of the region’s largest shopping and excursion ports, while Tortola gives travelers a gateway to the beaches and smaller islands of the British Virgin Islands.

Great Stirrup Cay adds a dedicated NCL beach day to the itinerary.

The 2028 deployment will also provide an early Caribbean showcase for Norwegian Aura, which NCL is developing with multigenerational vacations in mind.

Norwegian Aura will introduce Ocean Heights, the cruise line’s first open-air activities complex.

Norwegian Prima Is Returning to Galveston

The Western Caribbean will get another major NCL ship in 2028 when Norwegian Prima returns to Galveston, Texas.

The ship will operate seven-day roundtrip Western Caribbean cruises, bringing one of the company’s newer vessels back to the Texas market.

Among the scheduled calls is Harvest Caye, Belize, NCL’s resort-style destination off the country’s southern coast.

Harvest Caye includes a beach, pool, watersports, zip-line experiences, restaurants, bars, and connections to excursions on mainland Belize.

The stop gives Western Caribbean itineraries a dedicated resort day while still placing travelers close to some of Belize’s best-known natural attractions.

Galveston has become an increasingly important Caribbean cruise gateway, particularly for travelers across Texas and the central United States who prefer to begin a vacation closer to home.

Norwegian Prima’s return gives those travelers another newer-ship option for weeklong Western Caribbean cruises in 2028.

Norwegian Luna Will Make Inaugural Calls in Aruba and Curaçao

Travelers looking for a longer itinerary will have a different option aboard Norwegian Luna.

The ship will operate a special 10-day repositioning voyage from Miami to New York City in May 2028.

The cruise will include inaugural Norwegian Luna calls at Aruba, Curaçao, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The itinerary brings together three very different Caribbean stops during a single sailing.

In Aruba, travelers can spend the day between Palm Beach and Eagle Beach, explore Oranjestad, or head toward Arikok National Park and the island’s desert interior.

Curaçao adds the colorful waterfront of Willemstad, beaches along the island’s western side, and a growing restaurant scene across the capital.
