Sun Country Is Bringing Back Its Nonstop Flights From Minneapolis to Montego Bay, Jamaica

Sun Country Airlines is bringing back its nonstop service between Minneapolis and Montego Bay, restoring a direct connection between the Upper Midwest and one of Jamaica’s most popular destinations.

The seasonal route will return as part of the airline’s newly released winter 2027 schedule, which is now available for travel through April 13, 2027.

The service will connect Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport with Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, giving travelers in Minnesota and the surrounding region another nonstop option for reaching Jamaica.

Sun Country had previously suspended the route. The airline has not yet announced the precise restart date or weekly frequency for the returning flights.

A Returning Jamaica Connection

The relaunch restores an important nonstop link for Montego Bay, Jamaica’s largest tourism gateway and the primary airport for many of the island’s best-known hotel destinations.

From Sangster International Airport, travelers can reach the resorts of Montego Bay, the hotels and villas of Round Hill, Half Moon and Rose Hall, and the west coast destinations of Negril and Hanover.

The route also gives travelers from the Minneapolis area a direct Caribbean escape during the height of the winter season, eliminating the need for a connecting flight through another US gateway.

Sun Country said its broader winter 2027 program represents a return to the airline’s 2024 flying levels, with additional service planned to several of its strongest leisure markets.

“Sun Country is excited to open our schedule through April 2027,” Sun Country Airlines President Eric Levenhagen said. “Our winter 2027 schedule reflects a return to our 2024 flying levels with additional flights to many of our most popular leisure destinations.”

Montego Bay’s Growing Airlift

The return comes as Montego Bay continues to attract new and returning air service from cities across the United States.

Sangster International Airport is the main arrival point for Jamaica’s north and west coast tourism corridor, serving a broad collection of all-inclusive resorts, boutique hotels, private villas and luxury properties.

The airport is located just outside central Montego Bay, with many of the destination’s largest resorts within a short drive. Negril is approximately 90 minutes away by road, while the resorts of Ocho Rios are farther east along Jamaica’s northern coast.

The Minneapolis route is especially notable because nonstop Caribbean service from the Upper Midwest remains more limited than service from major East Coast and Florida gateways.

Its return gives Sun Country’s core Minnesota customer base a direct path to Jamaica during the coldest part of the year.

A Leisure-Focused Airline

Sun Country, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Company, operates a leisure-focused network from Minneapolis and other US cities.

The carrier serves nearly 100 airports and offers free entertainment streamed to passengers’ personal devices, complimentary nonalcoholic beverages and in-seat power in most seats. Food, snacks and additional beverages are available for purchase onboard.

Sun Country has built much of its network around seasonal demand, adding flights to warm-weather destinations during the winter and spring travel periods.

Montego Bay fits naturally within the airline’s model, combining strong winter demand with a large resort market and broad appeal among families, couples and group travelers.

What Travelers Can Expect

The returning route will give Minneapolis-area travelers a nonstop journey to one of the Caribbean’s busiest tourism destinations.

Montego Bay remains a major center for Jamaican travel, with a hotel landscape that ranges from intimate beachfront properties to some of the Caribbean’s largest all-inclusive resorts.

The destination is also a starting point for trips to Negril, Jamaica’s famous Seven Mile Beach, and the quieter resort communities along the island’s western edge.

Sun Country has opened reservations for its schedule through April 13, 2027, including the returning Minneapolis–Montego Bay service.

The airline has not yet provided additional operational details for the route, including its first flight date, operating days or seasonal end date.
