Antigua and Barbuda, UAE Deepen Tourism Cooperation
Antigua and Barbuda advanced its international tourism diplomacy this week as Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez met with UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri during the UN Tourism General Assembly in Riyadh.
The bilateral meeting focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries, with discussions centered on air connectivity, tourism partnerships and broader global engagement. Both ministers reviewed the potential for future Emirates Airlines flights to Antigua and Barbuda and explored opportunities to develop a joint tour package promoting multi-destination travel between the Caribbean and the Middle East.
Antigua has been one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in the Caribbean in recent years.
Fernandez and Al Marri also discussed Antigua and Barbuda’s support for the UAE’s candidacy in international tourism and economic bodies, noting the UAE’s increasing leadership in tourism innovation and global economic strategy.
Minister Fernandez highlighted the importance of continued collaboration, emphasizing the role of strategic alliances in strengthening connectivity and supporting economic diversification. He stressed that enhanced partnerships create pathways for shared growth across regions.
The minister was accompanied by Theon Ali, Ambassador to Qatar and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Antigua and Barbuda in the United Arab Emirates
