The Dominican Republic City of Santiago Is Getting More New Hotels As Demand Grows

By: Guy Britton - March 7, 2025

Punta Cana. La Romana. Santo Domingo. Puerto Plata. They’re the traditional tourism hubs of the Dominican Republic. But in the last few years, another city is getting on travelers’ radar: Santiago de los Caballeros, which is seeing renewed hotel growth and new flights.

The newest development? Hampton’s Hampton by Hilton brand is opening a new hotel in the Dominican Republic, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The brand is planning to open its first property in the fast-growing city of Santiago de los Caballeros, with a targeted opening in the fourth quarter of 2025, a spokesperson for Hilton confirmed to Caribbean Journal.

It’s one of several Hampton hotels currently in development in the Caribbean, along with the highly-anticipated Hampton by Hilton coming to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

Santiago is one of a handful of destinations in the Dominican Republic starting to see new tourism investment as the country works to broaden its travel landscape.

The city is already home to a Curio Collection hotel that opened back in 2020.

That includes new airlift from a number of carriers, most recently on Frontier out of San Juan, a route that kicked off last summer.
