Marriott Is Opening a New Resort in an Under-the-Radar Corner of the Dominican Republic
The pristine beaches. The fishing villages. The old-school charm, the fresh seafood. It’s a side of the Dominican Republic you may have never experienced, far from traditional hotspots like Punta Cana, La Romana and Puerto Plata. It’s another corner of the Dominican Republic, hidden away on a tiny peninsula on the northern coast. This is Las Terrenas, and the emerging destination will soon be home to Marriott’s newest resort in the country.
Beginning in July, the new Donoma Las Terrenas Beach Hotel and Spa will be the newest member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The new resort is the one of several major properties to debut in the Marriott portfolio in the DR in the last year, including the already-open Marriott Miches and the soon-to-debut St. Regis in Cap Cana, which is welcoming its first guests this spring.

And the location in the up-and-coming beach town of Las Terrenas is the story, with a setting one a spectacular stretch of sand.
The idea, according to the property, is to explore Las Terrenas, and really get out and dive into the town.
As far as amenities, you’ll find an on-site eatery focused on Dominican fare and a poolside bar and cafe with comfort food. There will also be a spa, a fitness center room and two pools: one for everyone, one for kids.

So what about prices? You can book rooms at prices as low as $405 per night starting on July 15. That gets you a one-bedroom suite with a queen bed. For a one-bedroom king suite with a jacuzzi, the rate goes up to $651 per night.
The hotel also has some larger two-bedroom and four-bedroom units, including some with their own pools.
So what about the biggest question: how do you get to Las Terrenas? When you get to Las Terrenas, you’re getting that sort of deliciously under-the-radar beach town you’ve been dreaming about. The drawback is isn’t really close to any major airports.
The closest one is Santo Domingo, which is a little over two hours away in a straight drive up the middle of the country. Here are some cheap flight options, according to Google Flights.
