It was a strong year for Puerto Rico’s main airport, buoyed by a blazing finish to 2023, according to the newest data from ASUR, which manages San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

Passenger traffic in San Juan totaled 13,247 million last year, an 8.6 percent increase compared to the previous year, including a 21.3 percent improvement in international traffic, buoyed by new flights from countries like the Dominican Republic and Spain.

Those totals included traffic of 1.289 million in December, which was a sizzling 16.2 percent jump over the same month in 2023 in San Juan.

The December numbers are a particularly strong sign, with a number of popular destinations around the Caribbean reporting high levels of performance last month.

Puerto Rico continues to be a popular destination, driven by cheap hotel prices and particularly cheap flight fares.
