Secluded coves, sparkling turquoise water, the birthplace of James Bond. Ocho Rios, Jamaica has always been one of the island’s most sought-after destinations, from its venerable luxury resorts to its popular all-inclusives.

But it’s never had a nonstop flight from the United States — until now.

Earlier this year, American Airlines kicked off its first ever nonstop flights between Miami and Ian Fleming International Airport, just outside of the city and a new gateway to Ochi.

And now with demand continuing to rise, American is expanding its route to Ocho Rios — with what will soon be daily nonstop flights.

Beginning Dec. 5, American Airlines will be ramping up what is currently once-weekly service into daily nonstop service between Miami and Ocho Rios.

American will continue to operate the route on its Embraer 175 aircraft with with 76 seats.

Before the service, travelers would have to fly to Montego Bay and then make the nearly two-hour driving trip to Ocho Rios — longer than the entire flight from Miami to Montego Bay.

The new service means vastly easier access to the destination, a getaway famous for its luxury resorts like the Jamaica Inn and all-inclusives like the Sandals Ochi Beach Resort, among others.

And then there’s Chris Blackwell’s Goldeneye, the villa and resort that was the former home of Bond creator Ian Fleming, who wrote all 12 of the novels at the property (including the villa where you can actually stay, replete with Fleming’s writing desk).

Fleming’s Bond success and love affair with Jamaica led the country to name the airport after him.

It’s no surprise then, that the flight number for American’s Ocho Rios route is 4007.
