This Is Your View at The Cove Atlantis

Enjoying the view at The Cove on Paradise Island

I’ve come to the conclusion that this view, from my room at The Cove at Atlantis in the Bahamas, is the reason why balconies were invented.

What better vantage point from which to take in the view of turquoise waves rushing towards the smile-like sweep of Paradise Island sand?

Even from this height I can hear the bass line of pop music emanating from poolside speakers, yet still discern the distant roar of waves in the background. I watch as sunlight makes jewels of the sea and the pool, their surfaces sparkling so brightly that I have to squint my eyes, yet I’m powerless to look away.

From here, sunbathers and swimmers seem ant-like, scurrying from poolside to water’s edge and back.

In the distance two ships are anchored at port in Nassau, their passengers no doubt in search of a classic Caribbean vista such as this. Some may buy a day pass to enjoy a temporary taste of the talcum sands and limpid seas over which The Cove presides. And really, I’m happy to share the island’s assets.

Because once the sun begins to set and the anchors have been raised and those giant cities float off toward the horizon and ports beyond, I’ll still be here.

Feeling lucky to have this moment. And to have this balcony.
