The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa in Puerto Rico is planning a large-scale renovation, Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla announced this week.
The property has pledged to invest about $500 million total in infrastructure, including $157 million for the renovation of 400 hotel rooms, the conversion of 200 rooms and 132 apartment units and the construction of 155 additional units.
Padilla said the move “joins [what] many others have done in what is the largest revitalization in years in the tourism sector.”
The project reportedly plans to add three more projects, which could mean 777 new timeshare units and a total investment of $388 million, according to the Governor.
Padilla said he was “grateful” for the confidence Wyndham had shown in Puerto Rico.
Wyndham first took over the management of the 600-room property in 2007 under a 20-year agreement.
The property is located on 500 acres near the El Yunque national forest.
