Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega agreed to encourage and deepen their two countries’ cooperation on security matters and the fight against transnational crime.
The two leaders also agreed to adopt the necessary mechanisms to strengthen bilateral trade.
“We have common themes in both countries,” Martinelli said.
Panama’s President, who also met with Nicaraguan businessmen to promote investment, said his country was ready to assist Nicaragua in the development of its ports and resorts.
Martinelli invited Ortega to make an official visit to Panama.
The two sides also emphasized the importance of strengthening the Central American region, particularly Panama’s efforts to continue its process toward full implementation of the Central American Integration System.
