A New Beach Resort Is Coming to This Tiny Island in The Bahamas

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - April 30, 2024

It was once the stomping ground of celebrities like Bridget Bardot, Cary Grant and Paul Newman, who were drawn to Great Harbour Cay in The Bahamas when it was a buzzing jet-set getaway in the 1960s.

In the last half-century, the island hasn’t changed much: it’s uncrowded, pristine and home to some of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean.

And while over the years tiny hotels have opened and closed, in recent years Great Harbour has lacked a premier destination hotel. Until now.

A new residential resort is coming to the island, and it’s called The Osprey: a luxury villa resort that will be opening its doors this summer.

The Bahamian-owned-and-operated resort is a boutique experience, with a collection of one villa, one cottages and three other suites.

There’s also a guest lounge, the home for breakfast, meetings and movies and games, anchored by a 65-inch flat-screen TV.

The Osprey’s main lounge has a full kitchen, and will readily coordinate private chef dinners upon request.

But the biggest draw is the beach, with the property set directly on 400 feet of perfect Bahamian white sand, part of a larger five-mile-long beach.

It’s a major addition to Great Harbour Cay, which in recent years has largely been a vacation -home and AirBnb destination but after the pandemic opened a brand-new international airport.

The Osprey is the first in what could be a new wave of hotel options on the island.

Even better, you can fly nonstop between Fort Lauderdale and Great Harbour on scheduled service through Fly Tropic Ocean Airways.
