British Virgin Islands Encouraging Careers in Financial Services Industry

Following a call to improve the British Virgin Islands’ financial services industry by Premier Dr Orlando Smith last month, the government is making a push to encourage careers in the sector.

The government, through the British Virgin Islands International Finance Centre, is reaching out to students in secondary schools in the territory to suggest futures in the industry, with the first financial services career expo Tuesday at the Elmore Stoutt High School.

The IFC is holding a career fair tomorrow, in the hope that with the increased awareness of financial services, more students will want to pursue such careers.

“Providing this exposure to the students on a regular basis helps to encourage and sets expectation for choosing a career to work in our major sectors,” said Alicia Green, marketing manager with the IFC. “This gives the IFC hope that our education initiatives are effective.”

Last week, Smith made a push to urge employers in the territory to consider young people in their hiring decisions.
