A New Way to Fly to Ocho Rios, Jamaica

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 23, 2022

It’s getting easier than ever to fly to Ian Fleming International Airport, the fast-growing destination near Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Another flight is now serving the airport, with the launch of a nonstop charter flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Ian Fleming International Airport. (The airport is named after Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond who made his home at the Goldeneye estate in Oracabessa, just outside of Ocho Rios.)

The new charter service on Quality Corporate Aircraft Services, or QCAS, is targeting “high-end travelers,” according to a company release.

It’s another boost for the greater Ocho Rios area, which includes some of the island’s top hotels like the Jamaica Inn and the legendary Goldeneye, among others.

“I am very pleased to welcome this new charter flight to Ocho Rios by QCAS,” said Director of Tourism, Jamaica Tourist Board, Donovan White, who was on site to welcome the flight. “This new convenient option for high-end travelers directly supports the development of the ‘Jamaica Revere’ zone being created from Oracabessa to Port Antonio while helping us continue our path to recovery as we build back more sustainably, more inclusively and more resiliently for the future.”

The flight will depart from QCAS’ facility at Fort Lauderdale International Airport, with 30 seats on its turbojet aircraft.

That means “comfort in seats that exceed standard First-Class seating legroom,” according to the company.

It’s another new route for the airport, which last week welcomed its first-ever flights on InterCaribbean Airways.

This fall, American Airlines will be launching new nonstop service from Miami International Airport to Ocho Rios.

Jamaica continues to see surging tourism growth with projected arrivals of more than 800,000 this summer — more than 85 percent of its pre-pandemic totals in 2019.
