OAS, CARICOM to Observe Guyana Vote

Several international organizations will observe Guyana’s general elections this year, according to a senior Guyanese government official. Both CARICOM and the Organization of American States have agreed to send observers, and Guyana asked the European Union yesterday to send a mission to oversee the election. [Demarara Waves]

President Bharrat Jagdeo Guyana is preparing to hold elections, both for president and Parliament, by November. All 65 seats in the country’s parliament will be in play in the election, the first in Guyana since 2006, when President Bharrat Jagdeo’s People’s Progressive Party won 55 percent of the vote.
