Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina and Curacao Prime Minister Ivar Asjes held talks this week in the context of the VI Summit of the Association of Caribbean States.

The meeting, which was held at the InterContinental Presidente hotel in Merida, covered issues including the “strengthening of relations between the two countries,” according to a statement from the Dominican Republic’s National Palace.

In what was characterized as a “friendly exchange,” Medina and Asjes discussed ways to intensify trade between the two countries.

Medina accordingly invited Curacao to send a trade mission to the Dominican Republic led by Economic Development Minister Stanley Palm.

That mission will visit the Dominican Republic in May, according to the government.

There are approximately 3,000 Dominicans living in Curacao.
