Traveling from Canada to Cancun? There’s a New Way to Get There.
There’s a new way to get from Canada to Cancun in the Mexican Caribbean. Porter Airlines is expanding its network into sun destinations for the first time, with new flights to Cancun from Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton set to launch this winter.
The new Cancun service is part of a broader expansion announced by the Canadian carrier, which is rolling out 13 new routes to five destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica. It marks Porter’s first move beyond its traditional footprint in Canada and the U.S.
Beginning Nov. 5, Porter will fly seven times weekly from Toronto Pearson to Cancun. Service from Ottawa and Hamilton will begin Dec. 17, with three and four weekly departures respectively.
The airline’s expanded southern schedule aligns with its joint venture with Air Transat, giving travelers broader access across sun markets and the ability to redeem VIPorter points on both carriers. Flights start at 10,000 points one way.
“ASUR is delighted to welcome Porter Airlines in Cancun. It is great to have your prestigious brand in our airport and destination. We are certain that you will be very successful, and your customers will enjoy this wonderful piece of paradise and all that it has to offer,” said Alejandro Vales Lehne, who is the customer and route development director at ASUR, whose broad portfolio of managed airports includes Cancun International Airport. “Cheers to our Canadian friends!”
The new Cancun routes are expected to strengthen Porter’s position in the Canadian leisure travel market while offering a differentiated service experience in an increasingly competitive space.

So what makes Porter’s experience different. It’s basically an “elevated” economy airline. That means 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which feature a two-by-two cabin layout, meaning no middle seats anywhere onboard.
Every passenger, regardless of fare class, receives complimentary Canadian premium snacks, free beer and wine served in glassware, and access to high-speed WiFi—services typically reserved for premium cabins on other airlines. Porter’s in-flight offering allows travelers to stream their own entertainment, use multiple devices, and enjoy a quiet, spacious cabin.
If you go for the PorterReserve all-inclusive fare, the experience goes further with fresh meals, pre-mixed premium cocktails, priority check-in and boarding, and extra legroom seating—all available à la carte with the PorterClassic fare as well.
It’s a welcome addition to the Mexican Caribbean — and the newest way to travel to Cancun in style and comfort. As for prices, a sample flight we found on Porter’s website showed fares of $440.15 roundtrip (in US dollars) if you book with one checked bag.
