Hyatt Just Took Over These Iconic All-Inclusive Resorts, From Jamaica to the Mexican Caribbean
Something big just happened in the world of Caribbean all-inclusive resorts. And while you weren’t watching, Hyatt cemented its place as arguably the world’s biggest all-inclusive powerhouse. Hyatt Hotels has officially completed its acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts, a move that brings 15 all-inclusive properties under the Hyatt umbrella — including several high-profile resorts across Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
The deal marks a deeper integration of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection, which now includes fully rebranded properties that had previously operated under Hilton and other Playa-affiliated names. Among them are well-known resorts in La Romana, Montego Bay, Cancun, and Playa del Carmen — each one now operating under Hyatt’s all-inclusive brand structure. The newly added properties include Secrets and Dreams resorts in the Dominican Republic, Dreams Rose Hall in Jamaica, and two Mexico resorts now operating as Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen and Sunscape Cancun.
Here’s a closer look at some of the rebranded properties now under Hyatt’s control:

Secrets La Romana (formerly Hilton La Romana – Adults Only)
Located on a quiet stretch of Bayahibe Beach in the Dominican Republic, the resort was formerly known as Hilton La Romana Adults Only. It now operates under Hyatt’s Secrets brand, offering 356 suites, multiple pools, and a focus on adults-only, all-inclusive experiences. The rebrand brings the property fully into the Inclusive Collection, aligning it with other Secrets resorts across the Caribbean and Mexico.
Dreams La Romana (formerly Hilton La Romana – Family Resort)
This adjacent family-focused property includes 418 rooms and suites and features a water park, kids’ and teens’ clubs, and a range of dining options. Previously operated as Hilton La Romana Family Resort, it now falls under Hyatt’s Dreams brand and joins a regional portfolio of family-oriented, all-inclusive resorts. It remains one of the larger family resorts on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic.
Dreams Rose Hall (formerly Hilton Rose Hall, Montego Bay)
Located just outside Montego Bay, the former Hilton Rose Hall has been rebranded as Dreams Rose Hall. The 489-room resort is set on a private beach and includes a golf course, spa, and one of the largest water parks in the region. The hotel’s integration into the Dreams portfolio signals Hyatt’s commitment to strengthening its position in Jamaica’s competitive all-inclusive sector, where it already has resorts under the Hyatt Ziva, Breathless, Secrets (we love the Wild Orchid resort) and Jewel Grande brands.

Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen (formerly The Yucatan Playa del Carmen – Tapestry Collection)
This 60-room adults-only property, located in downtown Playa del Carmen, was previously part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection. It is now branded under Hyatt’s new Hyatt Vivid line — a brand aimed at younger travelers seeking a boutique-style, all-inclusive experience. The resort includes rooftop pools, a spa, and quick access to Playa’s dining and nightlife scene.
Sunscape Cancun (formerly Panama Jack Cancun)
Previously known as Panama Jack Cancun, the beachfront property is now operating as Sunscape Cancun, part of the family-friendly tier within Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection. The resort includes 458 rooms, multiple restaurants, and family-focused amenities like a kids’ club and water slides. It sits in the heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, directly on the beach.
A Strategic Move in a Competitive Market
The acquisition builds on Hyatt’s previous expansions in the all-inclusive space, including its 2021 purchase of Apple Leisure Group and its 2024 joint venture with Grupo Piñero for select Bahia Principe properties, as reported by Caribbean Journal.
Now with Playa fully integrated, Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection includes nearly 50 resorts across the Caribbean and Mexico. The company has stated that existing Playa operations and staff will continue under Hyatt management, while loyalty program benefits through World of Hyatt will extend to all newly absorbed properties.
“This acquisition is a natural evolution of our longstanding relationship with Hyatt,” said Bruce Wardinski, outgoing Chairman and CEO of Playa Hotels & Resorts, in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal.
For travelers, the immediate effect is clearer brand alignment and expanded access to Hyatt’s rewards and vacation planning infrastructure.
