Travelers Keep Flocking to Curacao, With Demand Higher Than Ever

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 14, 2024 - 2:16 pm

From the sparkling new Sandals Royal Curacao to its always-dynamic capital, Curacao is in the midst of a travel boom — with travelers continuing to flock even in the typically slower summer season.

Even last month, normally one of the slowest of the year on the Dutch Caribbean island, Curacao welcomed 50,123 stayover visitors — a 13 percent jump compared to June 2023.

It’s a “remarkable” number of arrivals, the Curacao Tourist Board told Caribbean Journal in s statement, a testament to a continued surge in demand for the island.

Curacao’s travel renaissance largely began with the debut of Sandals to the island back in 2022, and the so-called “Sandals Effect” has led to a wave of new flights and never-before-seen demand for the destination.

That has come as Curacao has welcomed a number of new resorts, particularly all-inclusives, an area in which the island has carved out a special niche in the market.

The biggest growth area continues to be the United States market — a source market with which Curacao struggled for years before Sandals’ debut.

Last month, Curacao reported 14,913 arrivals from the United States, a 14 percent increase compared to last year.

For the first six months of this year, Curacao is up a whopping 27 percent compared to 2023, one of the highest growth rates in the Caribbean.

That trend is likely to continue, with tourism officials projecting a total of 700,000 stayover arrivals this year – which would be an all-time record.

Are you planning a vacation to Curacao right now?

The cosmopolitan island has a little bit of everything, whether you want to try an immersive cultural stay at the transformed Kura Botanica, an all-inclusive getaway at Sandals or a golf retreat at the Blue Bay resort.

So how do you get there?

It’s also never been easier to fly to the island, with flights on all major carriers including American Airlines, United, JetBlue and Delta. Delta just returned to the island after nearly a 10-year hiatus. Demand has been so strong that the airline is adding even more flights to Curacao beginning in November. https://www.caribjournal.com/2024/02/03/delta-is-adding-nonstop-curacao-flights-booming-demand/
