Passenger Traffic Growth Continues in Puerto Rico

The passenger traffic growth just keeps coming in Puerto Rico, according to new numbers from ASUR, which manages the island’s main air hub, Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.
San Juan passenger traffic was 1.136 million in May, a 4.3 percent increase over the same period in 2023. That was buoyed by a 15.4 percent jump in international traffic, as San Juan continues to attract new routes from abroad, mostly out of Spain and South America.

For the year, passenger traffic in San Juan is up just under 10 percent, with a total of 5.433 million.
It’s not a surprise, as the island’s cheap airfare and relatively-affordable lodging have helped drive a travel boom in the post-pandemic period.
And San Juan continues to see new routes launch from across the mainland United States, largely from lower-cost carriers like Frontier, which just added another eight new nonstop routes from the mainland.
