In Punta Cana, an All-Inclusive Designed With Multi-Generational Travel in Mind

It’s one of the biggest trends in travel right now: multi-generational travel, where families travel and stay together on their vacations, from the little ones to the grandparents.

While more and more resorts are trying to capitalize on it, some properties are taking things to another level.

That brings us to Finest Punta Cana, part of the Excellence Collection of resorts in the Dominican Republic: it’s a terrific resort for multi-generational families to visit, offering something for everyone in a single location.

You can start with thehe Adults-Only Excellence Club (18+ and over), where Grandparents can enjoy the serenity of the beautifully landscaped surroundings and still be able to spend quality time with the rest of the family housed in the nearby Finest Club accommodations.

While there are several wonderful restaurants that offer Adults Only (18+) dining, there are many restaurants, food trucks and the Market Kitchen Buffet to accommodate the whole family.

Rooms with private deck Jacuzzi’s and plunge pools are just the beginning.

It’s got a plum perch right on a beautiful stretch of Punta Cana beach.

For multiple families traveling together, there are Finest junior swim-up suites with plunge pools which connect with other suites via a main pool (another popular trend — and with good reason, too — once you’ve stayed in a swim-up room it’s hard to go back to one without direct pool access.”

There are also many amenities offered for families with small children, including baby bottle sterilizers, electric kettlse, baby bottle warmers, baby monitors, high chairs, baby bathtubs, baby crib and even homemade purées (gluten and fat-free, 100% natural).

In the children’s play area there are three cribs available for supervised naps while the adults enjoy breakfast and dinner.

The family area has a multitude of outdoor play areas, including several pools and rubber rock climbing fountains to delight children. There’s even a mini-me salon for young women to get pampered with hair and makeup and mani-pedis.

On my visit, there was a 98% occupancy of the property.  As has not been the case with a number of other Punta Cana resorts I have visited or reviewed, there never appeared to be crowding or unavailability of lounges at the pools and beach.

The One Spa complimentary Hydrotherapy treatment is the perfect way to refresh your body before enjoying a night at the evening show or just relaxing with a cocktail at one of the many bars and lounges.

Even if you haven’t visited the resort before, you are greeted with “Welcome Home” by the very courteous and professional staff.  Many of the staff have been with the resort for several years and there are many guests who have been returning to Finest every year.

For wedding parties, there are two ceremony gazebos, as well as three outdoor venues, two covered locations and one indoor venue.  The female bridal party will be pampered in a plus salon environment, including hair, makeup, mani-pedi, etc.

And if your stay is three nights or more, you will receive complimentary transfers from and to the airport.

It’s a place for a truly special vacation — with all of the family included.

Splashing Around in Jamaica’s Bioluminescent Bay

I’ll never forget that ooey-gooey feeling in Jamaica’s Luminous Lagoon. Its floor was a squishy and thick cloudlike mud. Perhaps in a normal circumstance, it would have grossed me out. But recently it was part of something special. It was my first bioluminescent bay experience. And, probably like most folks, I’d heard about bioluminescent bays […]

Rum Journal: From Jamaica, a Legendary Brand Grows Up

“We have Myers’s.” If you were a rum enthusiast a few decades ago, you’d know this common refrain.  You’d walk into a decent-looking bar in the United States, scour the back shelf, ask for an aged rum, and get that reply.  For a long time, Myers’s was the loneliest rum, a nomad on American bar […]
