This St. Thomas Beach Has White Sand, Sparkling Turquoise Water and a View We Never Get Tired Of

Lindquist Beach is just perfect.

Lindquist Beach is one of our favorite places in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with shady picnic spots, spectacular water, and every reason to spend the whole day.

The first thing we want to do at Lindquist Beach is get in the water. Put down the bag, leave the sandals on the sand, and walk straight into that extraordinary blue. You can sort out the towels afterward.

That’s the draw of this stretch of northeastern St. Thomas: white sand, clear water, and small islands on the horizon. Behind the beach, trees provide shade. Ahead, the shallows give you a long look at the sandy bottom before the color deepens offshore.

We love plenty of beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Lindquist is one we would happily plan an entire vacation day around.

The Water Is the Reason

The Caribbean has an almost unreasonable number of spectacular beaches. Even in that company, Lindquist deserves your attention.

The water close to shore has that pale, transparent turquoise you hope to find when you book a Caribbean vacation. On a sunny day, you can see the sand beneath the surface, with darker patches farther out and the silhouettes of neighboring cays beyond.

It’s a beach best appreciated from the water. Walk in, turn toward shore, and look back at the white sand and green shoreline. From that angle, you get a better sense of how much of the setting remains devoted to the beach itself.

On a calm morning, we could spend a considerable portion of the day right there, alternating between swimming and standing in the shallows. Conditions change with wind and weather, of course, so take a look before entering and follow any posted guidance.

A Beach You Can Settle Into

Lindquist is part of Smith Bay Park, and that public park setting is central to why we love it.

There are picnic pavilions and restrooms, practical details that make a longer visit easier. The trees behind the sand give you places to retreat from the sun, although the amount of shade changes through the day.

Bring a picnic, plenty of drinking water, towels, and sun protection. Find your spot, take your first swim, and give yourself time to stay.

That’s our preferred approach here. You don’t need to squeeze Lindquist between three other stops. Arriving with lunch and an open afternoon lets you enjoy the things you came for: another swim, a walk along the sand, a little more time looking out at the islands.

It’s one of the pleasures of a good Caribbean beach: a few hours can pass very comfortably with very little on the agenda.

The View Keeps You Looking Up

Some beaches have their best view facing the shore. At Lindquist, you’ll spend plenty of time looking outward.

The nearby cays give the seascape depth. You can follow the changing shades of blue from the shallows toward the islands, then watch how the colors shift when clouds cross the sun.

That view is part of what makes the Virgin Islands such an exceptional place for a beach vacation. The islands are close enough to give you something to study from your towel, and the water between them remains the main attraction.

Bring your camera, certainly. But leave yourself a generous stretch of time after you’ve taken the photograph. This is a setting we enjoy most when we can put the phone away and stay in the water a little longer.

An Easy Addition to an East End Stay

Lindquist’s location makes it a particularly good choice when you’re staying on the eastern side of St. Thomas.

Red Hook is within driving reach, so you can spend the day at the beach and head there afterward for dinner. If you’re exploring more of the island, Lindquist also gives you a reason to devote a day to this side of St. Thomas.

Have your driver take you to Lindquist Beach at Smith Bay Park; you may also see the name spelled Lindqvist. If you’re arriving by taxi, arrange your return pickup before settling onto the sand. Having that organized makes it easier to relax once you’re there.

We favor an early arrival, when you have more of the day ahead of you and a better choice of places to sit. Allow extra time if you’re returning to a cruise ship, particularly when your route takes you back across the island.

Why We Keep Recommending It

Lindquist delivers the things we most want from a beach day: sand comfortable enough for a long barefoot walk, water that makes us eager to swim, shade nearby, and a view worth returning to.

Its public park setting also makes it a place you can visit regardless of which hotel you choose. You can stay elsewhere on St. Thomas, pack what you need, and make this your beach for the day.

There’s an admission charge, so check current park information before heading over. Bring your essentials, respect the park, and leave yourself enough time to enjoy it.

Our advice is simple: get there early, bring lunch, and plan on more than one swim. Once you’ve seen that water, you’ll understand why Lindquist remains one of our favorite beaches in the Caribbean.
