American Airlines Is Returning to Haiti With Daily Flights From Miami to Cap-Haïtien

The airline’s Nov. 1 relaunch brings a daily nonstop connection back to northern Haiti, with Boeing 737 service and onward connections through Miami.
American Airlines is returning to Haiti on Nov. 1, relaunching daily nonstop flights between Miami and Cap-Haïtien. The route restores an American connection between South Florida and Haiti’s northern coast, with service aboard Boeing 737 aircraft.
The airline is marking the return with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Miami International Airport on launch day. In an invitation shared with us, American emphasized the route’s role in strengthening its connection with South Florida’s Haitian community, putting family ties at the center of the relaunch.
We first reported on the planned return to Cap-Haïtien in June. Now, with the first departure approaching, the service is moving from a summer network addition to a daily option for travelers heading to northern Haiti.
What American Is Bringing Back
The schedule calls for one flight each day between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien. American says the Boeing 737 service will include premium cabin seating and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi sponsored by AT&T.
Daily frequency gives passengers flexibility beyond a handful of weekly departure dates. You can plan a shorter visit, extend a family stay or choose a midweek departure without being limited to a route that operates only on certain days.
The destination is Cap-Haïtien, on Haiti’s north coast. The relaunch should be understood as a return to that city; it is a separate route from American’s former service to the capital, Port-au-Prince.
A Connection With South Florida
The route’s significance extends beyond the flight itself. South Florida is home to the largest Haitian-American population in the United States, according to American, giving the Miami connection an established community of travelers with family and personal ties to Haiti.
American also identified New York City and Orlando among the markets that would benefit from one-stop connections through Miami. That gives the route a role beyond serving passengers who begin their journeys in South Florida.
For travelers connecting from elsewhere, the practical benefit is the ability to reach Cap-Haïtien through American’s Miami hub on a connecting itinerary. The available options will depend on your departure city and travel date, making the connection time in Miami an important part of choosing a flight.
A Route With More Than a Decade of History
American’s connection with Cap-Haïtien dates to Oct. 2, 2014, when the airline operated its first flight to the city. That original launch also linked Miami with northern Haiti, establishing a second Haitian destination for the carrier at the time.
We covered that inaugural arrival as Haiti was pursuing a renewed tourism push. Cap-Haïtien’s proximity to the country’s National History Park was part of the appeal, connecting the airport with one of the Caribbean’s most significant historic areas.
This November’s flight returns American to a familiar destination. The immediate focus, reflected in the airline’s launch invitation, is reconnecting people and restoring a direct link with South Florida.
Part of a Larger Miami Caribbean Schedule
The Haiti return comes amid a wider expansion of American’s Caribbean flights from Miami. Its winter plans include more frequency to several established island destinations, reinforcing Miami’s role as the carrier’s principal regional gateway.
That includes as many as eight daily flights to San Juan, six to Tortola and four to St. Thomas. Seasonal increases to Exuma and St. Kitts are scheduled to begin Dec. 17, adding more departures during the winter travel period.
Cap-Haïtien adds a different dimension to that schedule: a restored connection to Haiti, with daily service aimed at a market whose ties to South Florida run deep. The first flight is scheduled for Nov. 1, with the Miami ribbon-cutting marking American’s return.
