American Airlines Is Relaunching Flights to Haiti, With New Daily Nonstops to Cap-Haitien

American Airlines is bringing back service to Haiti, Caribbean Journal has learned. 

The airline will be launching daily service to the country between Miami and Cap-Haitien on Nov. 1 on Boeing 737 aircraft. 

It’s the first time any American Airline will have served the Haitian market in several years due to ongoing instability in the country. 

American Airlines is still not operating flights to Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince.

Cap-Haiiten, set on the north coast of the country, is a colorful, vibrant destination with some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Hispaniola. 

While Haiti had made a push to reposition itself as a Caribbean tourism destination with a major push about a decade ago under the leadership of former Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin, leading to what was at the time a full-fledged pipeline of new hotels coming to the country — efforts that stalled under successive governments. 

It’s likely that if they were to resume, Cap-Haitien would be a prime stop for potential tourism development in the country. 

The route is currently served from Miami on fast-expanding regional carrier Sunrise Airways, which operates a growing network of flights within the Caribbean. 

So what about cost? 

American Airlines has released the flights for sale — but at a steep premium. 

I found rates of about $1,716 roundtrip between Miami and Cap-Haitien on American Airlines in the first week of November on Google Flights. 

That’s compared to about $782 on Sunrise.
