Hilton Is Reopening This Historic Mexico Hotel With Art Deco Design, a Rooftop and a Waterfront Address

A 90-room landmark on La Paz’s malecón returns Oct. 20 as part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection.
Hotel Perla has been part of the La Paz waterfront since 1940, a gathering place for travelers and residents overlooking the bay. Now the historic hotel is preparing to reopen with restored Art Deco architecture, four dining and drinking concepts and a new Hilton affiliation.
Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is scheduled to welcome guests on Oct. 20, 2026. The 90-room hotel sits directly along the city’s malecón, across from the beach, putting you within walking distance of downtown restaurants, shops and waterfront attractions.
The opening gives a familiar La Paz landmark a fresh role in the city’s hotel scene. Its original 1940s character remains central to the property, paired with contemporary interiors, a spa, an outdoor pool and a rooftop overlooking the water.
A Hotel With More Than Eight Decades of History
When Hotel Perla first opened, Baja California Sur was still a territory. It was the area’s first grand hotel, created by the people of La Paz along the waterfront promenade that remains one of the city’s defining attractions.
Over the following decades, the property became a meeting place for visiting adventurers and the local community. Its history encompasses family celebrations, evenings on the terrace and travelers arriving to explore the surrounding marine environment.
The restoration carries that history into the guest experience through the hotel’s Art Deco architecture and renovated accommodations. The 90 rooms retain their historic proportions, according to the property, with contemporary updates throughout.
We first reported on the Perla La Paz conversion earlier this year, when a September debut was anticipated. The hotel now has an Oct. 20 reopening date, with reservations available through Hilton.
Four Places to Eat and Drink
El Faro Rooftop is one of the principal additions, pairing dining with panoramic views and a vantage point for Baja sunsets. It gives you a place to end the afternoon above the waterfront before settling in for dinner.
The culinary lineup also includes La Terraza, Perla Restaurante and Bar Balandra. Together, the venues extend the hotel’s dining spaces from its courtyard to its rooftop, with Mexican cuisine and seafood among the central offerings.
Perla Restaurante’s published menu direction includes ceviches, a raw bar, grilled whole fish and zarandeado-style fish, along with a wine selection spanning Old and New World producers. Bar Balandra occupies the main courtyard, while La Terraza draws on the hotel’s longstanding connection to Mexican cooking.
An Address on the Malecón
The location is a substantial part of the appeal. You can step outside onto La Paz’s waterfront promenade, with the bay in front of you and downtown close by.
If you are planning a trip that combines time in town with excursions on the Sea of Cortez, the hotel offers a central base. You can spend part of the day exploring the waterfront, return for a swim or spa appointment, then head upstairs for sunset.
Within Mexico, this is a hotel stay centered on an established waterfront neighborhood. The beach is across the promenade, and restaurants and attractions are within walking distance, giving you reasons to explore beyond the property.
What Else Is Included
The amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, spa, boutique shopping and event spaces. Hilton also lists room service, concierge service and pet-friendly accommodations, along with Hilton Honors participation.
The reopening adds another distinctive property to Hilton’s regional portfolio, following the arrival of Tropicana Los Cabos in the Tapestry Collection.
At Perla, the draw starts with the address and the history: a restored 1940 hotel, directly on the La Paz malecón, with a rooftop that brings the waterfront into view.
