This Colorful Boutique Hotel Is Bringing Hilton to One of Mexico’s Most Underrated Beach Cities

It's an exciting addition to Baja California.

The first Hilton is coming to one of Mexico’s most captivating waterfront destinations.

Hilton is planning to open Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection by Hilton this September, bringing the company’s lifestyle boutique brand to La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur and one of the Gulf of California’s most appealing seaside cities.

The hotel will also make history as the first Tapestry Collection by Hilton property in Baja California and the first Hilton-branded hotel in La Paz, expanding the company’s footprint in a destination long favored for its tranquil beaches, marine life and relaxed atmosphere.

A Historic Landmark, Reimagined

The new hotel is taking shape inside the historic Hotel Perla, one of La Paz’s best-known waterfront buildings.

Rather than replacing the landmark, Hilton is preserving much of its mid-century character while introducing renovated accommodations and contemporary amenities.

You’ll find refreshed guest rooms alongside breezy outdoor terraces designed to take advantage of the city’s year-round sunshine. Throughout the property, pastel shades of pink and green nod to the building’s vintage personality while creating a bright, coastal feel.

Several new dining concepts are also planned as part of the redevelopment.

A Rooftop Over the Sea

One of the hotel’s signature features will be its rooftop.

The space is set to include a swimming pool and bar overlooking the Gulf of California, with sweeping views across the water and the La Paz waterfront.

It is the kind of setting made for lingering over sunset cocktails after a day exploring the city’s lively malecón or heading out on the water.

Why La Paz Is Worth Discovering

While Cabo San Lucas often draws the spotlight in Baja California Sur, La Paz offers a very different experience.

The city is known for its walkable waterfront promenade, colorful historic center and easy access to some of Mexico’s most spectacular natural attractions. Just outside the city, beaches like Balandra have earned international recognition for their shallow turquoise water and striking desert-meets-sea scenery.

The surrounding Gulf of California, famously described by Jacques Cousteau as “the world’s aquarium,” is a destination for snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and seasonal wildlife encounters, including whale sharks.

La Paz also has become an increasingly popular destination for travelers looking for a quieter alternative to the region’s larger resort markets.

Expanding Hilton’s Presence

The opening of Perla La Paz continues Hilton’s steady growth across Mexico, particularly in destinations where boutique hotels and adaptive reuse projects are becoming an increasingly important part of the company’s portfolio.

As part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, the property joins a brand focused on independent hotels with distinctive local character, rather than standardized design.

If all goes according to schedule, Perla La Paz will welcome its first guests in September, adding a fresh boutique option in one of Mexico’s most compelling coastal cities—and introducing the Hilton name to La Paz for the first time.

Hilton hasn’t opened up the hotel for reservations, based on what I saw on the company’s website and Google Hotels’ portal.
