Cirque du Soleil Is Bringing a New Show to Puerto Rico With Salsa, Acrobatics and Live Music
A limited run of LE LO LAI will premiere in San Juan on Feb. 12, 2027, with 30 performances celebrating Puerto Rican music, culture and traditions.
A musician returns to Puerto Rico carrying his cuatro. The sounds of home bring back memories: familiar places, family, the rhythms that followed him through childhood. That homecoming is the starting point for a new Cirque du Soleil production coming to San Juan next February.
Called LE LO LAI, the show pairs Cirque’s acrobatics and visual storytelling with live bomba, plena, salsa and reggaeton. It is the company’s first limited-series production created specifically for Puerto Rico, developed with Puerto Rican artists, musicians, artisans and creative collaborators.
The world premiere is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2027, at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in DISTRITO T-Mobile. An initial run of 30 performances will give residents and visitors a new reason to plan an evening around the capital’s entertainment district.
Puerto Rico’s Music Leads the Story
The central character is Miguel, whose return to the island sets off a journey through the traditions and moments that shaped him. His cuatro, Puerto Rico’s emblematic stringed instrument, connects that journey to the music of home.
A live band supplies the soundtrack, with Puerto Rican composer and musical director Ángel “Cucco” Peña collaborating on the show’s music. Rather than sitting behind the action, the music guides the story and its movement between memory, family and a reconnection with Miguel’s roots.
The title draws from a refrain in traditional Puerto Rican music associated with joy, nostalgia and celebration. The approximately 75-minute production is intended for audiences of all ages, making it an option for a family trip as well as a night out in San Juan.
A Puerto Rican Creative Team
The production’s local participation extends beyond its musical direction. Choreographer Danny Lugo, costume designer Joshuan Aponte and cultural advisor Paloma Suau are among the Puerto Rican collaborators shaping what audiences will see onstage.
Vejigantes, a blooming maga flower and a playful Puerto Rican parrot appear among the production’s island references. The cast includes 33 performers, more than 10 of them Puerto Rican, combining local talent with Cirque du Soleil’s acrobatic disciplines.
Creative director Emilie Emiroglou described a process that began with listening to Puerto Rico’s people, music, traditions and stories. Miguel’s homecoming gives those influences a narrative thread, connecting the spectacle to a recognizable experience of returning to the place you come from.
An Evening at DISTRITO T-Mobile
The setting gives you room to make the show part of a longer evening. Producers say the celebration will extend into DISTRITO T-Mobile and Popular Plaza, with music, food and experiences before and after performances.
We first covered the plans for the DISTRITO T-Mobile entertainment complex, which brought a major new gathering place to San Juan’s convention district. LE LO LAI adds a limited-run attraction around which you can organize dinner and a night out.
If you want to stay in the district, Aloft San Juan is another option. We included the hotel in our guide to Marriott hotels in Puerto Rico, highlighting its location within the entertainment and dining destination.
Dates and Tickets
The announced schedule includes Friday performances at 8 p.m.; Saturday performances at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday performances at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Ticketera currently lists the season from Feb. 12 through March 21, 2027.
General ticket sales began Oct. 9, with announced starting prices of $35. You can check individual dates and availability through Ticketera; some opening-weekend performances are already listed as sold out.
The show is presented by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company in collaboration with PRISA Presents and No Limit Entertainment, with Discover Puerto Rico supporting international promotion. If you are planning a late-winter San Juan trip, check your performance date before arranging the rest of the evening.
