Royal Caribbean’s next Icon Class ship has officially touched the water.

The new Hero of the Seas floated for the first time this week at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, a major construction milestone for the ship ahead of its planned August 2027 debut in Miami.

The float-out came after the ship’s dry dock was filled overnight with more than 90 million gallons of water. Hero was then moved to an outfitting pier, where work will continue over the next year.

It’s the latest step for a ship that will become the fourth member of Royal Caribbean’s rapidly expanding Icon Class, following Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas. CJ first reported on the vessel last year, when Royal Caribbean laid the keel for what was then its unnamed fourth Icon ship.

Hero of the Seas will have eight distinct neighborhoods, nine pools and 28 dining concepts, including the new Orleans Parrish Supper Club. The accommodations will include Royal Caribbean’s three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse.

The activity lineup includes Crown’s Edge, a combination skywalk and zip-line experience set 154 feet above the ocean, along with the Coconut Cove pool and the adults-only Hideaway.

The bigger Caribbean story is where Hero will be sailing.

Royal Caribbean says the ship will operate seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with every itinerary including a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas. The private destination has become an increasingly central piece of Royal Caribbean’s Caribbean strategy, appearing across everything from short Miami-to-Bahamas cruises to sailings pairing CocoCay with the company’s new Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island.

Hero’s arrival will also continue a steady stream of new Icon Class ships into the region. Legend of the Seas, the third ship in the series, reached sea trials earlier this year ahead of its own Caribbean deployment.

And Royal Caribbean is far from finished. The company now has Icon Class ships planned annually through 2030, making the series one of the defining pieces of its future Caribbean cruise lineup.

For Hero of the Seas, though, the next phase happens back in Finland: outfitting, testing and completing the enormous ship before Miami gets its newest Icon Class arrival next summer.
