Cayman Airways Is Adding Extra Flights to One of the Caribbean Basin’s Most Underrated Getaways This Summer

Cayman Airways continues to expand its network.

The rainforest begins almost where the city ends. Rivers tumble out of emerald mountains, ferries head for the Bay Islands and the Caribbean Sea stretches toward Roatán.

This summer, getting to this underrated getaway from Grand Cayman is becoming a little easier.

Cayman Airways is adding three extra nonstop flights between Grand Cayman and La Ceiba, Honduras, with additional service scheduled for July 17, July 24 and Aug. 7. The added flights complement the airline’s regular Wednesday schedule on the route, giving you more opportunities to plan a summer escape or connect with one of the Caribbean Basin’s most fascinating destinations.

A Caribbean Adventure Capital

La Ceiba isn’t usually the first name that comes up when people think about Caribbean vacations. Maybe it should.

The city is the front door to Pico Bonito National Park, one of Central America’s great tropical landscapes. Dense rainforest blankets the mountains above town, filled with waterfalls, hiking trails and extraordinary birdlife. Within minutes, you can trade the waterfront for rushing rivers and lush jungle.

Back on the coast, La Ceiba has a distinctly Caribbean rhythm. Seafood restaurants line the waterfront, fishing boats head out each morning and the city remains one of Honduras’ cultural centers, particularly during its famous Carnival celebrations.

Perhaps most importantly, La Ceiba is also the main jumping-off point for the Bay Islands. Ferries connect the mainland with Roatán and Utila, making it easy to combine mainland adventure with some of the Caribbean’s finest diving and snorkeling.

More Ways to Get There

The additional summer flights reflect growing demand for one of Cayman Airways’ most distinctive regional routes.

Instead of operating only on Wednesdays, travelers will now have three additional Friday departures during the peak summer period, creating more flexibility for long weekends and extended vacations alike.

The route has quietly become an important bridge between Grand Cayman and northern Honduras, connecting two destinations with deep Caribbean ties separated by barely 440 miles of sea.

Why It’s Important

Much of Caribbean aviation focuses on the region’s biggest tourism markets.

Routes like Grand Cayman-La Ceiba tell a different story.

They connect neighboring destinations, make multi-country Caribbean vacations easier and open the door to places many travelers have yet to experience.

For anyone looking beyond the Caribbean’s classic beach resorts, La Ceiba offers something refreshingly different: rainforest adventures in the morning, Caribbean seafood in the afternoon and easy onward connections to the Bay Islands whenever you’re ready for your next stop.

With three extra flights now on the schedule this summer, discovering one of the Caribbean Basin’s most underrated gateways just became considerably easier.

A Growing Regional Network

La Ceiba is just one part of Cayman Airways’ growing network from Grand Cayman. Within the Cayman Islands, the airline provides essential service to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, linking all three islands with multiple daily flights. Internationally, Cayman Airways connects Grand Cayman with destinations like Miami, Tampa, Los Angeles, Denver and Austin in the United States.

That’s along with Kingston and Montego Bay in Jamaica, Panama City, Havana and La Ceiba. The network has increasingly focused on strengthening both regional Caribbean connectivity and nonstop links to key North American markets, giving you more options whether you’re planning a beach vacation, an island-hopping itinerary or a connection deeper into the Caribbean Basin.
