Air Canada now has a free option.

Flying to the Caribbean on Air Canada just got a meaningful upgrade.

The Canadian carrier has officially launched fast, free streaming-quality Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members across its flights to and from Caribbean and Mexican sun destinations, alongside its broader North American network — a notable move that puts Air Canada among the most-connected carriers serving the region.

The new service, sponsored by Bell, allows passengers to stream video, play games and use data-heavy applications on their personal devices gate-to-gate, at speeds the carrier describes as comparable to ground-based broadband. It marks a meaningful step up from the free in-flight texting service Bell has sponsored for Aeroplan members since 2023.

“Quality connectivity has become indispensable for all travelers,” said Mark Nasr, executive vice president and chief operations officer at Air Canada. “Starting today we’re thrilled to offer complimentary Wi-Fi on North American, Mexican and Caribbean flights for Aeroplan members, by partnering with Bell. This initiative underscores Air Canada’s focus on elevating the customer experience, with leadership in providing streaming quality connectivity, at a pace unmatched by other airlines — at home and around the world.”

What It Means for Caribbean Travelers

For travelers flying to the Caribbean on Air Canada, the rollout is a tangible perk. Free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi is now available on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express flights operated with CRJ900 aircraft — including the carrier’s full network of Caribbean and Mexican leisure routes.

Air Canada is one of the largest carriers serving the Caribbean from Canada, with nonstop service to destinations including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Aruba, Curaçao, Grenada, St. Maarten and others, depending on the season. The free Wi-Fi rollout means Aeroplan members flying any of those routes can now stream movies, video chat, play games or work in real time across the full flight.

It’s a meaningful differentiator on a stretch of the market where most carriers either don’t offer Wi-Fi on Caribbean routes or offer it only on a paid basis. Several major U.S. carriers have moved toward free Wi-Fi for loyalty members in recent years, but Air Canada’s rollout puts the airline at the front of the field for the Caribbean segment specifically.

How It Works

Connecting to the free Wi-Fi onboard is straightforward.

Travelers can either capture their Aeroplan number at the time of booking, or add it before completing check-in. Once onboard, passengers connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi network and follow the prompts to access the service. To switch devices, the session transfers automatically once the new device logs in.

Travelers without an Aeroplan membership can join free of charge at aircanada.com/aeroplan, or alternatively purchase Wi-Fi for the flight at a flat fee.

“At Bell, we’re focused on delivering exceptional experiences that help Canadians stay connected wherever they are,” said Blaik Kirby, group president, consumer and small business at Bell. “We’ve proudly sponsored in-flight Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members since 2023, starting with free texting. Now, we’re thrilled to help take that experience to the next level — enabling streaming, gaming and more from gate to gate.”

What’s Next

Air Canada says fast, free Wi-Fi is now available on 88 percent of its fleet, with the remaining installations to be completed by early 2026.

Notably, the carrier has confirmed it will become the first airline globally to offer Wi-Fi on De Havilland Q400 aircraft, which serve Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport — a route network particularly important for travelers connecting to longer-haul flights to the Caribbean. Installations on the Q400 fleet and on the carrier’s Embraer E175 aircraft are expected later this year, pending certification.

In 2026, the fast, free streaming-quality Wi-Fi service is expected to expand to Air Canada’s international routes. In the interim, free texting remains available for Aeroplan members on international flights.

Why It Matters for the Caribbean

The rollout lands at a particularly strong moment for Canada-Caribbean travel.

The Caribbean has been one of the most resilient outbound markets for Canadian travelers in recent years, with the region consistently ranking among the top sun-destination categories for Canadian vacationers. Air Canada, alongside WestJet, Air Transat and Sunwing, has steadily expanded its Caribbean network out of Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and other major Canadian hubs — and many of the most-popular destinations in the Caribbean, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Lucia and Grenada, have seen meaningful growth in their Canadian visitor numbers.

The free Wi-Fi rollout is one of the more passenger-facing investments Air Canada has made on its Caribbean product in some time, and a useful selling point for the carrier heading into the busy summer travel season.

The upshot is simple: a free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi connection on a Caribbean route that previously came with limited or paid connectivity — one of the more practical onboard upgrades to land in the region in a while.
