Norwegian Cruise Line Just Ordered 3 New Cruise Ships

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is planning the next stage of its fleet expansion, with new ships coming for each of its three cruise brands.
The company announced it has reached an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the design and construction of three new cruise ships, one each for Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered between 2036 and 2037.
The order is part of the company’s long-term fleet development strategy and secures additional shipyard capacity as it continues expanding its cruise brands.
Three Ships for Three Cruise Brands
Each of the new ships will be connected to previously announced ship classes.
The ship for Oceania Cruises will be built as a sister vessel to Oceania Sonata, one of the line’s upcoming luxury ships. The Regent Seven Seas Cruises vessel will be a sister ship to Seven Seas Prestige, the brand’s next ultra-luxury ship currently in development.
The Norwegian Cruise Line vessel will be built as a sister ship to a previously announced Norwegian Cruise Line newbuild order.
All three ships will be constructed at Fincantieri shipyards in Italy, continuing a long-standing partnership between the cruise company and the Italian builder.
“Together with Fincantieri, a trusted partner for decades, we continue to advance a disciplined approach to fleet growth that builds on the strength of our brands, defines the future of cruising and elevates the guest experience for years to come,” said John W. Chidsey, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
A Long-Term Cruise Growth Plan
The agreement secures shipyard capacity through the end of 2037 and supports the company’s long-term growth pipeline.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said the structure of the agreement allows it to maintain financial discipline while continuing to expand its fleet. The company expects to fund the majority of the vessels’ cost through Export Credit Agency financing once the ships are delivered.
Following the agreement, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings now has 17 ships on order across its three cruise brands.
That pipeline includes 8 ships for Norwegian Cruise Line scheduled through 2037, 5 ships for Oceania Cruises through 2037, and 4 ships for Regent Seven Seas Cruises scheduled through 2036.
