Grenada’s Spice Island Beach Resort Just Named a New Resort Manager
Grenada’s Spice Island Beach Resort has announced the appointment of Sheldon Keens-Douglas as Resort Manager, effective July 1, 2025 — a move that marks both a return and a new chapter for the Grenadian hospitality leader, Caribbean Journal has confirmed.
Keens-Douglas, who joined the all-inclusive as Commercial Director in January of last year, has already made a measurable impact, the resort said.
Over the past year, he has helped drive brand visibility, grow international market presence, and boost occupancy at one of Grenada’s most iconic luxury resorts.
It’s a property our editors have long adored.
Now, in his new leadership role, he’ll oversee day-to-day operations while working closely with the executive team to carry out the resort’s broader strategic vision.
“We are delighted to welcome Sheldon back into operations leadership at Spice,” said Janelle Hopkin, President and Managing Director of Spice Island Beach Resort. “His deep understanding of both the commercial and guest service sides of our business, coupled with his passion for Grenadian and Caribbean hospitality, makes him the ideal person to help guide the resort into its next chapter.”
A graduate of Cornell University’s prestigious hospitality management program, Keens-Douglas brings more than two decades of experience across luxury hotel operations, tourism marketing, and brand strategy. His hospitality journey began at Spice itself, where he served as Assistant Manager from 2001 to 2006 — gaining valuable frontline experience in service, guest relations, and operations.
Since then, his career has spanned roles at leading global hotel brands, including Four Seasons, as well as regional marketing leadership at C&W Communications. He is also the founder of SPEAK Inc., a consultancy focused on branding, PR, and hospitality training across the Caribbean.
For Keens-Douglas, the appointment is as much personal as it is professional.
“I am honored to take on this new role at a property where I feel very much at home,” he said. “Spice Island Beach Resort represents ‘Grenadian Excellence’ and serves as a wonderful showcase for the genuine warmth, exceptional talent and skills that reside here. I look forward to working closely with our dedicated team to uphold our legacy of excellence while embracing new opportunities for growth and innovation.”
The announcement comes as Spice Island Beach Resort continues to position itself as a flagship for luxury Caribbean hospitality — rooted in local culture, family-led leadership, and a commitment to excellence that spans generations
