Even in the height of summer, when many Caribbean destinations see a lighter load of tourists, Puerto Rico is showing no signs of slowing down.
The destination’s cheap flight-driven post-Covid renaissance is continuing, with super-low airfares (and copious available airlift) helping to drive a 10.5 percent growth in passenger traffic in July at the island’s largest air hub.
Luis Munoz Marin International Airport had passenger traffic of 1.408 million last month, up from 1.275 million in July 2023.
For the year, the numbers are just as strong: total passenger traffic of 8.14 million so far this year, representing a 10.3 percent increase compared to the first seven months of 2023.
Thanks to Puerto Rico’s comparatively low air taxes (compared to the rest of the Caribbean), it’s been able to keep flight prices low, ensuring continued tourism growth throughout the post-pandemic period.
That’s also led to a massive number of new flights from across the mainland United States on carriers like American, JetBlue, Spirit and Frontier.
