Frontier Airlines Is Adding Another Caribbean Island: Trinidad
For years, Caribbean regional aviation has been a constant struggle. Intra-regional carriers have come and gone, from the old American Eagle to LIAT. But now an unlikely candidate is starting to fill the void: Frontier.
The American carrier has quietly been adding a wave of new routes inside the Caribbean out of its growing hub in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The newest one? Trinidad. Beginning in July, Frontier will run three weekly flights between San Juan and Port of Spain, Trinidad, with intro fares as low as $29.
The new flights will officially kick off July 11, adding to Frontier’s growing Caribbean network out of San Juan that will soon include destinations like Barbados, St Croix, St Thomas and Cancun.
Most importantly, the San Juan flights open up Frontier’s large network of flights from cities across the mainland US that fly to San Juan.
“We are thrilled to add nonstop service between Puerto Rico and Trinidad as we rapidly expand our operations throughout the Caribbean,” said Josh Flyr, vice president of network and operations design, Frontier Airlines. “By offering so many low-cost travel options to and from San Juan, we are pleased to be a valuable partner in its vital and flourishing tourism industry.”
While it’s not yet clear how long these prices will hold, they could be a game-changer for regional aviation.
