Bermuda’s tourism numbers have recovered more quickly than expected, officials on the island say.

The island’s tourism recovery this year, after a very slow turnaround out of the pandemic, has prompted airlines to add more flights and routes in 2024.

By April and May, Bermuda will hit a new milestone, with air capacity eclipsing 2019 levels for the first time since the onset of the pandemic.

That includes flights from the island’s new flag carrier BermudAir, along with established airlines like JetBlue, United and American Airlines also expanding their frequencies to Bermuda.

BermudaAir is of particular interest, with its new Fort Lauderdale flights opening up a market beyond the island’s traditional wheelhouse of the northeastern United States, and doing so in a unique, all-business-class seating configuration.

The flight expansion will mean more routes overall to Bermuda than before 2020, along with new flights from source markets like Florida, Westchester County and even SATA Azores, which will start flying three flights each week from the Azores Islands to Bermuda beginning in June.

“As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of tourism, we must work together in more strategic ways to ensure our island paradise remains a top-tier destination for travellers worldwide,” said Bermuda Tourism Authority CEO Tracey Berkeley.
