Norwegian Cruise Line is adding more options to cruise the Panama Canal, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Next year, the company will be positioning its Norwegian Joy cruise ship to Los Angeles for a season of Mexican Riviera and Panama Canal cruises.

The itineraries will take place in the winter 2019-2020 season, according to the company.

Norwegian said the move would be a “a turning point in the historically underserved winter cruise market on the West Coast of the United States.”

The announcement comes as competitor Carnival has announced its own plans to grow its presence on the west coast, both in Long Beach and San Diego.
