Caribbean-Mexico Hotel Pipeline Keeps Growing

There were 39,434 hotel rooms across 226 projects under contract in the Caribbean and Mexico last month, according to the latest data from analytics firm STR.

The total represented a 39 percent increase in rooms under contract compared to May 2016, according to the report.

The Caribbean and Mexico reported a total of 13,503 rooms in 82 projects in construction for the month, representing a 7 percent increase year over year.

Three countries in the region reported more than 1,000 rooms in construction: Mexico, with 8,649 rooms across 61 projects; Cuba, with 1,318 rooms in two projects and the Dominican Republic, with 1,025 rooms in four projects.

Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
