Southwest Airlines Traffic Keeps Growing

Southwest Airlines is seeing continued strong traffic growth, according to the company’s latest numbers.

The company flew 10.9 billion revenue passenger miles last month, up 6.2 percent from 10.2 billion revenue passenger miles in March of 2015.

Available seat miles jumped 6.1 percent to 12.9 billion last month, up from 12.1 billion the previous year.

And load factor hit a record in March, topping off at 84.6 percent, according to newly-released data.

For the first quarter, revenue passenger miles rose 9.9 percent to 28.4 billion, up from 25.86 billion in the first quarter of 2015.

OVerall, the company reported 28.6 million revenue passengers carried, an 8.2 percent increase over the first quarter of last year.

Southwest has been on an expansion push in the Caribbean, launching new flights to the region out of a host of cities including its new hub at Houston’s Hobby airport.
