Sunwing Vacations has announced plans to launch summer service from Ottawa for the first time, the company announced.

The flights, which launch May 11, will operate weekly between Ottawa and the Cuban destination of Varadero.

“Ottawa is an important gateway for us. Over the past winter season, we have successfully operated a program to 12 varied sunshine destinations including Grand Bahama, Fort Lauderdale in Florida and Cancun, Mexico,” said Andrew Dawson, president of tour operations for Sunwing Vacations, in a statement.

There are now seven Canadian gateways on Sunwing Airlines available for summer travelers, the company said.

“We are pleased to be able maintain our operations all year round with the introduction of this new direct flight to one of our most popular vacation destinations, Varadero, Cuba.”
