Earthquake Causes Light Shaking in Anguilla, St Maarten

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake caused light shaking in Anguilla and St Maarten on Wednesday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake struck at around 2:41 PM local time at a depth of 17 kilometres. Its epicentre was about 73 kilometres north-northeast of Stoney Ground in Anguilla, about 171 kilometres north of Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis and about 301 kilometres north-northwest of Guadeloupe.

There were reports of shaking in Sandy Ground in Anguilla and in St Maarten’s Cole Bay, according to the USGS.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

In April, a 5.0-magnitude quake struck near Anguilla and caused shaking in much of the northeastern Caribbean.
