PUNTA CANA — The Sheraton brand has officially returned to Santo Domingo.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts this week announced the debut of the new Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel at the former Melia Santo Domingo.
The 255-room property, which is owned and operated by Hoteles Nacionales, recently concluded a $12 million renovation project.
The Sheraton is the third Starwood property in the Dominican Republic, along with the recently-opened Westin Punta Cana and the Four Points By Sheraton Punta Cana Village.
The announcement came in the context of the DATE 2014 tourism exchange in Punta Cana this week.
“We are thrilled to reintroduce the Sheraton brand to the Dominican Republic following this strategic conversion in Santo Domingo, the ‘Gateway to the Caribbean,'” said Hoyt Harper, global brand leader for Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, in a statement.
The property, which also includes 22,500 square feet of meeting space, is located on Santo Domingo’s Avenida George Washington waterfront boulevard. It had been operating under the Hotel Magna 365 name during the renovation.
